Our Presence

Samina Bano’s journey to social activism began in her childhood, growing up in a conservative Muslim family as the first girl to receive an education. Her father’s role as an airman in the Indian Air Force allowed her to attend Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, where she was exposed to an inclusive environment. This, along with her personal battle with polio that left her left leg partially paralysed, ignited her passion for fighting inequality. As early as age 8, she successfully campaigned for children of non-officers to share the same playground as officers’ children.

After completing her education at IIM-Ahmedabad, Samina briefly worked at Deloitte in the U.S. before returning to India to focus on educational equity. She founded RightWalk Foundation, initially focusing on Uttar Pradesh, to harness the transformative power of the Right To Education Act, specifically Section 12(1)(c). The organisation has since broadened its scope to include livelihoods and health, aiming to elevate families from generational poverty to sustainable living within one generation.
