The RightWalk Foundation

Activating Public Policies to solve socio-economic inequality in India

We Aim To

Our Mission

Uplift 10M Indian households from poverty to sustainable living by 2030, through targeted policy interventions in education, livelihoods and health

How It Began

The RightWalk Foundation was born with a bold and audacious vision: to eradicate generational poverty, dismantle structural inequalities, and steer families towards a future of sustainable living. From day one, our commitment has been to address the root causes of socio-economic inequalities. We strategically chose public policy as our main vehicle for driving profound societal change. Our initial endeavours centred around harnessing the transformative power of the Right to Education Act, particularly Section 12(1)(c), as a cornerstone for equality in educational access, starting in Uttar Pradesh. Recognizing the pivotal role of educational equity in the broader socio-economic matrix, RightWalk’s mission evolved to encompass not only education but also critical areas like livelihoods and health, forming a comprehensive approach to social upliftment.

Our Presence

Samina Bano’s journey to social activism began in her childhood, growing up in a conservative Muslim family as the first girl to receive an education. Her father’s role as an airman in the Indian Air Force allowed her to attend Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, where she was exposed to an inclusive environment. This, along with her personal battle with polio that left her left leg partially paralysed, ignited her passion for fighting inequality. As early as age 8, she successfully campaigned for children of non-officers to share the same playground as officers’ children.

After completing her education at IIM-Ahmedabad, Samina briefly worked at Deloitte in the U.S. before returning to India to focus on educational equity. She founded RightWalk Foundation, initially focusing on Uttar Pradesh, to harness the transformative power of the Right To Education Act, specifically Section 12(1)(c). The organisation has since broadened its scope to include livelihoods and health, aiming to elevate families from generational poverty to sustainable living within one generation.
